Rwanda Attractions.

Rwanda is an extremely small country surrounded by land and has scenery that is not only mountainous but also lush green and it is simply magnificent. It is a completely safe nation putting aside its past history and is also famously known for its “gentle giants”; the mountain gorillas and golden monkeys in their Parc National des Volcans. Its capital city Kigali is beautiful and has got so much to see from the Genocide Memorials to the night life. There might be quite little to see but one thing for sure is whatever is there has got a uniqueness of its own. The Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda. (Parc National des Volcans)

This park is located on the North western part of Rwanda bordering the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park of Uganda and the Virunga National Park of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is habitat to a number of plant and animal species including the Golden Monkeys and the Gorillas too that are said to be an endangered species. The Volcanoes National Park is also home to other things like 5 out of 8 Volcanoes belonging to the Mountains of Virunga. It has a number of activities that take place in and around it like gorilla tracking, the Mountain Karisimbi Volcano climb, the golden monkey tacking, the Dian Fossey hike and the visit to the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village to mention but a few.

The Nyungwe Forest National Park.

This park is found on the South western side of Rwanda narrowing to the border with Burundi and it is characterized by its tropical forests that are ancient and montane. Forest Lodge NyungweIt is notably known for having chimpanzees and also other primates like the Owl faced  and Dent’s Mona Monkeys to mention but a few. Other activities that take place within this park include the and Nature and Canopy walks, the trails like the Igishigishigi that involves a suspension bridge so high up that leaves you with a magnificent view of the surroundings and the valley, the waterfalls, orchids and birdlife.

The Akagera National Park.

It is in the eastern part of Rwanda and is very close to the Tanzanian border. The park is a protected wetland and is said to be the largest of its kind in Central Africa. It is known also as a safe haven for the adapted species of the savannah in Rwanda. The Akagera National Park is characterized by quite a number of things including the swamps, savannah and the woodlands and low mountains. Different animal and bird species can also be found here like the Shoebill stork that is a rare species, the giraffes, crocodiles, lions, zebras and elephants to mention but a few. The Kigali Genocide Memorials.

Rwanda had at some point in history gone through a very trying period that saw many thousands lose their lives over tribalism and political matters. This period was called the Rwandan Genocide of 1994 and it happened sometime in April and lasted 3 years. Today, memorials that were built to remember the victims that perished and the survivors of this terrible time are found all over the country and they act as a symbol of peace to the people of Rwanda. Some of these memorials even have photographs, remains and belongings of those that passed on in this season. Get to visit the Gisozi memorial too.

Lake Kivu.

It is located at the western side of the country and also borders the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is a lake that is very deep but all the more crystal clear. Its waters are fresh and it has the tenth largest Island in the entire world sitting on it; Idwiji Island. On its shores are famous towns like Gisenyi and Kibuye (Karongi) that really have a lot to offer.
